That’s why we sniffed out these dog-friendly wineries in Napa Valley, where your pampered pet is allowed to join in the wine tasting festivities.

It’s important to note that at most pet-friendly wineries, your dog will need to remain leashed and won’t be allowed in the tasting room, wine cave, or cellar. However, as long as Fifi or Fido is well-behaved and considerate (no barking at other guests or dogs, please), these Napa wineries happily welcome you and your faithful four-legged friend to enjoy a taste of the good life, and maybe even a biscuit or two.

Judd’s Hill

Judd’s Hill is a family-owned winery through and through, started in the Finkelsteins’ garage in the 1970s. The name of the game at this micro crush winery, tucked on the outskirts of Napa proper, are limited production, small-lot wines. With only 3,000 cases produced annually, attention to detail is their bread and butter, and man’s best friend can get in on the action, too. Well-behaved dogs are more than welcome to join you for a terrace tasting that highlights Judd’s Hill’s word-class wines.

Tamber Bey Vineyards

You and your dog will both enjoy saddling up to Tamber Bey, a picturesque winery located at Sundance Ranch in Calistoga, and home to the largest horse facility in Napa Valley. While at Tambery Bey, not only will you be able to sip Bordeaux-style blends and premium single-vineyard estate wines, but you can also say hello to the horses, both high-performance Arabians, as well as some that have been rescued from abuse and neglect. Your dog will love it because there’s lots of outdoor space and even a dog park. Plus, they will get plenty of water and tasty food. Pine Ridge, known for its elegant Cabernet Sauvignon wines, offers traditional tastings, but if you’re bringing your pup, a “Garden Reservation” is a great option. Your group will have a dedicated seating area in the estate gardens where you can pour your own wine and relax. Frog’s Leap Winery is serious about wine but with a sense of humor. With a motto like, “Time’s fun when you’re having flies!” how could you expect anything but a good time? Known for its historic Red Barn and organic farming methods, Frog’s Leap Winery has been up and running for decades. The winery’s pride and joy is its Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Grown in the Rutherford region of Napa Valley, known for producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons, it is the winery’s first entirely estate grown wine. Chimney Rock is one of just a few wineries that produce all Stags Leap District estate-grown Cabernets, which is why it’s a must-visit if you like Cabernet Sauvignon. While you’re sitting on the shaded patio and sipping your way through those richly textured wines, your (leashed) dog can take a nap or rehydrate (dog bowls with water are provided). Etude

Etude Winery is a great spot to enjoy fine wines with your furry companion by your side. Set in the picturesque Carneros region, Etude welcomes well-behaved, leashed dogs to join you in their scenic outdoor spaces. Tres Sabores Winery

When you arrive at this family-owned and Napa Green winery in St. Helena, you and your pup will be greeted by a fluffy, four-legged welcoming committee of three friendly Golden Retrievers: Cava, Bouzy Rouge, and Moose. If you’re lucky, the newest additions to the Tres Sabores Winery, Fi-Fi and Crooze, will also join the party. After you’ve told everyone what good girls and boys they are, you can enjoy a tasting of Tres Sabores’ Zinfandels, Cabernet Sauvignons, and Petite Sirahs. While your dog enjoys fresh water, treats, and pets. All tastings are intimate and hands-on and require an appointment. Keep in mind that dogs should be listed in your reservation and must remain on-leash for the entirety of the visit. (And kids can come along, as well.)
